A quick history of submarines
One of the most well known pioneering submarines is the Turtle which was man powered and made it's first attack on Lord Howe's flag ship Eagle in New York harbour in 1776. Then there was the Nautilus built in 1800 which was sail powered on the surface and man powered when submerged. A very famous submarine was the Hunley. This sub has the distinction of being the first ever sub to sink a ship in a submarine attack in 1864. The Hunley was also man powered. Moving on to the HollandVI built by J.P.Holland. She was launched in 1897 and was powered by petrol engine on the surface and battery power when submerged. She was also armed with one torpedo. So here is where the submarine boomed with Diesel Electric designs and then Nuclear. We should also remember the many research subs which have brought us back some amazing images from the black and eery world of the deep.

My Background
I am 32yrs of age and work as a feild service technician in industrial electronics. I have a wife, Claire and two girls. Meg is 3yrs and Jasmine is 1yr old. I have been building models for as long as I can remember. The U Boat is the biggest project so far and also has been the most challenging. I have built static models and RC planes but submarines seem to give you that extra dimension.
